Custom Framing / Shadow Boxes

Shadow Boxes For Objects With A Story.

A shadow box is a deep frame that displays objects instead of flat art. Frame Place builds them for keepsakes, collections, uniforms, and anything dimensional, arranging the layout with you before the box is sealed.

Some things cannot be flattened into a picture: a pair of baby shoes, a folded flag, a watch, a collection of ticket stubs. A shadow box gives the object depth, protection, and a deliberate arrangement, so it reads as a piece instead of clutter in a drawer.

The layout is the craft. We position each object with you, choose backing and depth, and secure everything so it stays exactly where you decided it belongs.

Good To Know

What Can Go In A Shadow Box?

Almost anything with depth: baby shoes and hospital bracelets, folded flags, watches and jewelry, sports equipment, wedding keepsakes, uniforms, instruments, ticket collections, and objects that fit no category at all. If it matters to you and it fits through the door, it is a candidate.

The real question is rarely whether an object can go in; it is which objects belong together, and in what arrangement, so the box tells one story instead of several.

How Much Does A Shadow Box Cost?

Depth, size, and the number of objects drive the price. A single keepsake in a compact box is a modest job; a full uniform with medals, photos, and a flag is a bigger build. Bring the objects in and we will price the exact layout in front of you, free, with options at more than one budget.

How Do You Design The Layout?

Together, at the counter, with the actual objects. We arrange, step back, rearrange, and keep going until it reads right, and nothing is fixed in place until you approve the arrangement.

Editing is part of the craft: sometimes the strongest box is the one that leaves two objects out. We will say so when that is the honest advice.

How Long Does A Shadow Box Take?

Shadow boxes are the jobs most likely to run past the shop's 3 business day average, because layout and mounting take real time. Simple single-object boxes often still hit the average; complex multi-object builds can take longer, and we will give you an honest estimate when we see the pieces.

Questions, Answered

Common Questions

How Deep Can A Shadow Box Be?

Deep enough for most objects people bring in. Bring the piece and we will match the depth to it in the shop.

Will The Objects Stay In Place?

Yes. Each object is individually secured to the backing so the arrangement you approved is the arrangement that stays.

Can You Frame A Folded Flag?

Yes. Folded flags, alone or with medals, photos, and insignia, are among the most meaningful boxes we build, and we treat them accordingly.

Does A Shadow Box Protect Against Dust?

Yes. The finished box is closed behind glass, which keeps dust and handling away from the objects. Like all framed pieces, it prefers a wall out of direct sun.

Can Baby Clothes Or A Wedding Keepsake Go In?

Yes. First outfits, christening gowns, bouquet keepsakes, invitations, and similar mementos are classic shadow box material, and fabric pieces are mounted so they are supported, not stressed.

Can I Change The Arrangement Later?

The arrangement is fixed once built, which is what keeps it in place on the wall. If your story grows, we can open the box and rework the layout as a new job.
