Custom Framing / Canvas Framing

Canvas Framing And Stretching.

Frame Place frames existing canvas artwork, stretched or rolled. Floater frames, traditional mouldings, or a clean gallery wrap finish: you see the options against your canvas in person and pick what suits the piece.

Canvas Framing at Frame Place Miami

Canvas asks a different question than paper. There is no glass and no mat, so the frame itself does the finishing. A floater frame gives the piece air and a modern edge; a traditional moulding gives it weight and formality.

If your canvas is rolled, from a trip, a market, or a printer, we stretch it properly before framing so the surface sits flat and stays that way.

Good To Know

What Is A Floater Frame?

A floater frame surrounds the canvas with a small visible gap, so the painting appears to float inside the frame rather than being covered by it. No edge of the artwork is hidden, which is why floaters have become the default modern finish for canvas.

A traditional moulding does the opposite: it overlaps the canvas edge slightly and gives the piece weight and formality. Neither is better in general; one is better for your piece, and holding both against the canvas settles it quickly.

How Does Canvas Stretching Work?

The canvas is pulled evenly over wooden stretcher bars, squared, and tensioned so the surface sits flat and stays flat. Done properly, the image lands exactly where it should on the face and the corners fold cleanly.

We stretch originals, printed canvas, and pieces that arrive rolled in tubes from trips. If a canvas was stretched badly somewhere else, or has gone slack over the years, we can restretch it.

How Much Does Canvas Framing Cost?

The size of the canvas and the finish you choose set the price: stretching only, stretching plus a floater, or a traditional moulding. Bring the canvas in, rolled or stretched, and we will price the real options in front of you, free.

Questions, Answered

Common Questions

Can You Stretch A Rolled Canvas?

Yes. We stretch rolled canvas over proper bars before framing, whether it is an original painting or a print.

Does Canvas Need Glass?

Usually not. Canvas is typically framed without glass so the texture stays visible, and we will tell you honestly if your piece is an exception.

Can You Restretch A Sagging Canvas?

Yes. Canvas that has gone slack with time or humidity can usually be re-tensioned on its bars or restretched on new ones. Bring it in and we will tell you which it needs.

Do You Frame Gallery-Wrapped Canvas?

Yes, and sometimes the honest advice is to leave a clean gallery wrap unframed. We will tell you which camp your piece falls in.

How Large A Canvas Can You Handle?

Large. We print canvas up to about 50×120 inches in house, and we stretch and frame existing canvases in the same range. For anything unusually big, call ahead and we will plan it.

How Long Does Canvas Framing Take?

About the shop average of 3 business days for most jobs, depending on the type and complexity. Stretching plus framing usually still lands near the average.
